Auburn’s safety rating by SafeWise, an aggregate site geared toward neighborhoods and homes, shows welcome news for everyone who calls our village home.

How Auburn Stacks Up

Ranking as one of the safest cities in the state, Auburn’s safety rating rose in standing, moving up 12 spots since SafeWise’s last annual report. SafeWise placed Auburn among the state’s safest cities, with the Loveliest Village earning the No. 17 ranking.

With low reported per capita crimes, Auburn shot up in SafeWise’s ranking system. Auburn’s safety rating drew directly from its desirably low-crime metrics: 3.7 violent crimes and 21.3 property crimes per 1,000 people. Rainbow City secured the top spot for safest city in Alabama, reporting a .1 violent crime and 5.2 property crime rate, respectively.

 SafeWise’s Study

The study that underpinned Auburn’s safety rating, along with all other Alabama cities’, came from SafeWise’s “State of Safety” survey. Other factors that led to the rankings included statistics from the 2018 FBI crime report and U.S. Census demographic data. All of this was compiled and assessed into the annual report’s results.
